Thoughts on Body Positivity

A few days ago, a new friend asked me how I, as a larger, curvy lady, felt about the term “body positivity.”

Here’s my answer:

Bodies are just bodies. They’re not what matters. Every woman – no matter what shape or size – is self-conscious in some aspect. When you do the inner work and let go of the constant desire to look perfect or ideal, is when the magic happens. When you are being authentic, passionate, and caring – you have a sparkle in your eyes, a lightness in your walk, and a radiance in your heart.

If you’re reading this, you are beautiful. Full stop. If you’re struggling with your body image, you are not alone.

I have fought with my body and found peace with my body. It’s a constant, evolving relationship.

Now, I challenge you to surrender. Give up your desire for perfection, the ideal body, the goal weight, whatever it may be that you’re striving for.

Breathe in deeply. Exhale deeply. Ground yourself. Surrender.

Move through your day as if your body doesn’t define your worth. Because, my dear, it doesn’t.

You are beautiful.

You are worthy.

You are free.
